I read you can freeze all 3 credit reports with a single phone call. Is this true and what is the advantage of freezing?

fraud alert
I did it
when I lost my wallet
it keeps anyone else from obtaining credit in yoru name…
in theory NO ONE can open a credit card in your name without a few extra steps…..
this his helpful since I was able to get a sears and a jcpenny card at the store in about 3 mintues @ xmas time this past year…if it was that easy for me I would not think it would be much harder if someone had all my info right in front of them…..
these days professional theives know how to register shop…..
to a middle aged white woman, most asians look alike so any asian lady with a stolen license of another asian could obtain a card if she had memorized the info on it
With the credit freeze that couldnt do it as easily

By freezing your credit report you are essentially reporting to them that you suspect someone may be trying to fraudulently obtain credit in your name. What this does is earmarks your credit report with the warning so that if anyone pulls your credit with the intention of providing financing they will see the warning and make direct contact with you before proceeding with the financing. You can find more information on this on the site below. Life Lock uses this fraud alert as a primary means of protecting your credit and they automatically update the fraud alert to the bureaus regularly so that your idenity is always protected.

You can put a “fraud alert” on your credit file….This stops the process of someone obtaining new credit from your identity.
This “freeze” will not stop the regular reporting of events that involve your credit history..such as if you are going past due on your accounts….
