dghost asked:

Hi, I just applied for a citi credit card and It was denied…
I am new here in the US, since January 2008, and I bought a car on March, and because of my car loan my credit started to run. The reason they didn’t approve my CC was: “The consumer reporting agency serving your area has reported only a limited credit history for you.”
Which credit card should I apply for? And when should I apply for? Because I’ve been reading and they say it’s not a good idea to apply too often..
Thanks

ANGEL

You should try applying for a credit card from Orchard Bank. It’s a good “starter” card because they usually don’t give high credit amounts.

You shouldn’t apply to often for credit cards because each time you apply for a card your credit history is checked and your credit score will decline by a few points for each inquiry.

    Good Luck!

Wait at least 6 months before applying again. If you apply too often it will make them think you’re hard up for cash. Then they’ll conclude that you might not be able to pay your bills.

You can either wait about 6 months so your payments is a little longer since thats the biggest part of your credit report….

or you can apply for a secured credit card at a local bank

or you can go online and apply for a ‘no credit” credit card with are meant for people with no to bad credit… but the interest rates are alot higher

You can apply to as many cards as frequently as you’d like but it hurts your credit score. Every time you apply your score goes down because every time you apply you allow the creditor to view your credit history. The more your history is looked at the lower your score.

it won’t hurt your credit to apply often until you get a credit card because once you get one, I’m hoping you won’t be applying for years. You don’t have any credit history because you are new to this country. You might have to settle for a secured card or unsecured one that is listed at the following site for people with No Credit. You choices are limited right now but after you get one of these cards, you can apply for a better one after 6 months.

You will probably have to get a secured card with an annual fee; those usually are easier to get. Also, you definitely do NOT want to apply for credit too often. I have been studying up and working to build my own credit score up and have found that those really hurt you in the long run. Everytime you do apply, it hits your credit reports and will look liek you are desperate.
