    Was the debt paid off? If the debt was not paid off, then they can still come and collect. You still owe the money. Just because its not on your credit report, that could have been an error.

    Just because it aged off your credit file doesn’t mean they can’t try to collect it.

    It is probably past the Statute of Limitations (SOL), the timeframe to bring lawsuit. Clock starts from the last activity or payment. Check your state:

    If it is past the SOL, you can send the collection agency a certified, return receipt letter telling them to cease and desist all contact as the debt is beyond the SOL. They will probably sell the debt off to another collection agency.
