Sye S asked:

I have been in touch with a company who said they can add seasoned tradelines to my credit report to boost my score over time. However, in doing some research online, I fopund that a lot of lenders are trying to combat against this practice by ignoring “authorized user” accounts and the points they add to your credit score. I believe this practice began some time last year.

Is there anyone who has had seasoned tradelines added since then in the recent past who has seen some form of improvement to their score AND been able to get a loan (i.e. home, car, etc) with the improved score and tradelines completely considered? I would like to know if this is still a beneficial practice before I spend 800 to add one to my report.

Please, only consumers, not companies trying boost their services. Preferably someone who got through with a loan after adding seasoned tradeleines. Thanks!

I heard about similar things last year, and I personally don’t trust it. The best way to raise your credit score is to simply pay your bills on time. You won’t see a difference from adding the tradelines to your credit report immediately. In fact, if there is open debt on one of those tradelines (which IS possible), you will see your credit score drop initially.

You’ll notice that on the FICO website, at no point does it recommend that you use a third party to raise your credit score.

There is one thing that I had done as an 18 year old that helped my credit score. If you have someone in your family who is reliable with their credit cards, you can open up a charge account with them or have your name added to theirs. My grandmother actually opened a card under her name but with me as an authorized user when I was 18. She used the card for general purposes and it was always paid on time. I never used the card, but it still showed up as a good account on my credit report. I would do this before I would spend any money opening “tradelines” since this will have a similar effect.

This practice is banned, and if there is a company doing it, they risk being blackballed by the credit bureaus from further posting.
